BeatSleep does not collect your data. This is not a promise about how carefully a database is guarded: there is no database, and there is no server. Nothing you record is ever sent to the developer, and there is no mechanism by which it could be.
What BeatSleep reads
All of the following is read from HealthKit, on your own devices, and used only to run the session and to describe your nights back to you:
- Heart rate, on the Apple Watch while a session is running, to decide the vibration cadence and to compute the summary you see in the morning.
- Sleep stages, heart-rate variability, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, wrist temperature and blood oxygen, on the iPhone, to show you your nights, including the nights from before you installed BeatSleep, and the hours after a session has closed itself.
- Your own sleeping minimum, once, to set the lowest rate the descent will ever lead you to, instead of guessing at a number for you.
Health data is never used for advertising, never sold, never shared, and never used for any purpose other than showing you your own night inside the app.
What BeatSleep writes
- Mindful minutes, into your own Health app, covering the stretch of the night you were being led. Nothing else is written to Health.
Where it is kept
Every night BeatSleep records is stored in a file inside the app's own container on your device, protected by iOS file encryption while your device is locked. Summaries move between your Apple Watch and your iPhone over Apple's encrypted device-to-device link, which never leaves the pair.
iCloud sync, optional and off by default
BeatSleep can carry your history between your own devices. This is off unless you turn it on, and it is not our network:
- Records are written to the private database of your own iCloud account, using CloudKit.
- Every field is written through CloudKit's encrypted values, so the payload is encrypted with a key held for you and never for us.
- The developer has no account system, no server, and no access of any kind to that database. We cannot read it, list it, or know it exists.
- Turning the switch off deletes those records from iCloud, rather than merely ignoring them.
Apple's handling of your iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions
BeatSleep Pro is sold and billed by Apple through your Apple Account. The app asks Apple's StoreKit whether this Apple Account is entitled to Pro, and that answer stays on the device. We never see your name, your email, your payment method or your Apple Account. Apple provides the developer only with anonymous, aggregated sales reports, which cannot identify you.
What is not done
- No account, no sign-in, no email address.
- No analytics, no crash reporting SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no tracking of any kind.
- No third-party SDKs.
- No data is sold or shared with anyone.
Your control
- Export. "Export my nights" writes everything BeatSleep holds to a JSON file you can keep or inspect.
- Erase. "Erase everything" deletes all recorded nights permanently, on the device and in iCloud.
- Revoke. You can withdraw Health permissions at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › BeatSleep.
- Delete the app. Deleting BeatSleep deletes everything it stored. Mindful minutes already written to Health belong to your Health app, and are removed there, if you wish, from Health itself.
Because no personal data ever reaches the developer, there is nothing for us to hand over, correct or delete on request under the GDPR: the export and erase controls above are entirely in your hands, and they are complete.
Children
BeatSleep is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.
