Semitono

Last updated: 5 October 2026

In one sentence: Semitono collects no personal data, has no accounts, has no analytics and sends nothing to any server of mine, because I don't have one.

What is stored and where

Semitono stores on your device what it needs to work: which lessons you've done, your practice minutes, the state of your review cards, your ear-training results, your tempo marks and the analyses of what you've played.

If iCloud is on, the same information is copied to your private iCloud database so it shows up on your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple Account. Neither I nor anyone else can access it.

It is also end-to-end encrypted: it is stored in an encrypted field that CloudKit encrypts with your own devices' keys. Not even Apple can read what's inside.

Microphone

The tuner, the voice studio and the chord detector analyse sound live, on the device. Nothing is recorded and nothing is sent.

The recorder does keep audio, but only as files in the app's private storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere and you can delete them from the app.

Artificial intelligence

The Tutor uses the language model Apple runs locally on the device (Apple Intelligence). Your questions never leave the device and are not sent to any outside provider.

What there isn't

Crash reports

If you have “Share With App Developers” turned on in your device settings, Apple may send me technical reports about unexpected crashes. They are anonymous technical data handled by Apple, not by me, and you can turn them off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Children

Semitono is not aimed specifically at children under 13 and, since it collects no personal data, it collects no data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above will show it. Any change to how data is handled will also be announced inside the app.
